Had a user with a new Dell T1700, super-fast machine, that couldn't get any audio out of the headphone jack. I assume the same would be true if speakers were connected.
I couldn't figure out why. The PC guy went to look at it and finally discovered:
"The nvidia driver was active as primary and was expecting a signal via the HDMI cable. I disabled it. We can thank the NVIDIA driver suite."
Who would have guessed?
