Overmolding design

Dear Progurus,

For overmolding two part with the same material, eg GPPS or SAN, normally do
we have to design a step/lip at the contact surfaces?
Do we need to design certain gap, zero gap or overlap the surfaces at the
contact area? What is the potential defects that normally happen when the
contact at surface area is not properly designed?
This is the first time i am designing part for overmolding process.
Any insight and advice is very much appreciated.

Thank you

Lily

Perhaps what i am looking at is not really overmolding but two-shot
injection process where two parts with different colors are joined together.
the first injection molded part will be insert into the second mold
before second injection process take place. End of second injection molding
,we get final part consist of two color part with same material and good
joining and aesthetic.
