Performing save as

The save as command only assigns a different file name to the model being saved. It has nothing to do with the external references present in the model when saved.

You will need to manage the external references using other functionality. If you explain the nature of the references, then someone will make some suggestions on how to deal with it. Note what version you are using and the intent of the models use after breaking the references.

There are potentially several things happening here (any or all could apply)

1. when you do a save as, creo has a tendency to keep the original file open, unlike windows programs. So you need to verify you are working on the correct new model, not the original model you started with.

2. you mentioned "copy of the assembly" if you are copying an assembly and changing the parts (that did not get a new name/file) you are changing the parts everywhere you used them. You may need to save as the assembly and the parts you intend to modify.

3. "references" to upper assembly don't get removed because you did a save as. Now you have 2 assemblies referencing the same upper level assembly. You'll need to manually remove these references from the new assy.

4. I don't have a 4th point but ehhhh...3 didn't look like enough to make a cool looking list.
