Dear,
I try to simulate a composite beam that is excisting out of 2 oak beams (3x20x650mm) with in the middle 3 different steels beams with 3 different widths (1, 2 and 3mm) and the dimension of the steel is (1x20x650 mm).
Becaus this is not possible a calculation is been made to find the youns modules of the composite and only 1 beam needs to be drawn.
E = (E1 * t1 + E2* t2)/( t1+t2) t1 thickness of oak, t2 thickness of steel
E for 1mm of steel 38GPa
E for 2 mm of steel 58.25 GPa.
E for 3 mm of steel 74 GPA.
But when I make this simulation in Creo PTC I only get a deflection of 0.0555 mm instead of 0.52 mm?
Hello Oona,
You have a student version and cannot open it with the pro version.
If you are in a school you should be able to unlock your file.
This is Young's Module.
Kind regards.
Denis.
I don't understand why "this is not possible". Why not just make a composite beam assembly, set the properties of each piece, then run your analysis?
Dear Mr Farley,
I don't have any idea how you make a composite in Creo PTC?
I only have a student license is this the problem?

Hello
Could you contact us images of your editing with its haracteristics.
Kind regards.

Dear,
Here is a print screen of the workbench and simulation mode.

If I understand correctly, the way I'd look at it is:
(1) Make a part (.prt) that is the oak part(s) of the beam.
(2) Make a part (.prt) that is the steel part of the beam.
(3) Make an assembly (.asm) by stacking the oak and steel parts into the final beam, as necessary.
(4) Enter the Simulate application.
(5) Assign the material properties and boundary conditions, loading, etc.
(6) Run the analysis.
You can then change the thickness of components, etc. to get the results for different configurations.
Dear,
I tried to make the composite and to make a simulation of it.
But the analysis is not able to run.
I already tried to change the loads, constraints,...
I hope somebody can help.
Kinds regards
Oona
