Project x-hatch sketch on part?

I want to wrap a x-hatch sketch onto the threaded portion of a bolt (visual for masking the area for heat treat).  How would I do that? 

Not sure if I should be using the wrap tool or projecting, or a combo of both...  or something else?

I normally accomplish this by projecting a section. Could you please share your bolt model? Thanks
