I haven't tried the functionality but Win7 has the Windows XP mode, once it has the same principle of an Virtual PC, probably your performance will drop drastically, and probably the Windows VM will not recognize your graphic card hardware so isn't worth.
Regarding dual boot, you can do that and it's easy, but you have some prerequisites in order to perform it, this simple guide shows it step by step.
