Thanks to the responses that I got.
Sometimes the easiest solutions are right under your nose, and you've never thought of them.
The solution that I finally used was to use File/Print, INSTEAD of Publish/Settings/Print. This was easy for me because we already had different PDF files for each printer that we had, because of some screwy margins that we have as well. For whatever reason, when you click on the Publish tab, it automatically does a zoom default, but using File/Print does not.

I don' know a direct answer to your question, but you could test this:
Save the current view (_tmpview)
Switch to the publish tab
Recover the view (_tmpview)
Print.
