Any Editing in part results in software crash.

Do you have a previous iterations of the part that you can try to open to see if the latest iteration became corrupt?
You may have to turn on the iterations in Windows to see.

When opening a part you can specify specific iterations.
Alt-F, O then part_name.prt.2
Most likely a part issue, not a problem with the software.
Try updating to a newer version of Creo, yours is about 10 years old.
