I filed an enhancement request to allow splitting of custom quantity
balloons E7313870 back on October 5th.
The enhancement request tracker shows no activity whatsoever - thanks
PTC.
I'm also fed up with the lack of quantity balloon functionality on
flexible items and on simplified reps.
These issues are a problem for me because I have to submit detailed
drawings of assemblies showing component quantity and placement for
contract review.
This was my request:
Allow custom quantity balloons where the quantity is controlled by a
user defined repeat region relation to split and merge quantities the
same way as standard quantity balloons.
BUSINESS IMPACT:
This enhancement would:
1. establish a consistent approach to quantity balloons by maintaining
the relationship between the repeat region and balloon quantities while
at the same time utilizing the current split quantity functionality.
1. prevent drawing errors with quantity balloons.
2. allow enhanced control of item quantities through repeat region
relations.
One situation where this arises:
In some cases, there are assemblies where certain parts and
subassemblies may only exist once, but can have multiple placements and
need to be shown on the drawing in those multiple placements. Yet, even
though the object may be shown multiple times, it would not exist in
each location and so the repeat region quantity needs to be controlled
to reflect the actual quantity. While this can be done in the repeat
region through relations, the resulting balloons can not be split which
makes it impossible to clearly and parametrically define in the drawing.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
While it is possible to create a customized quantity balloon where the
quantity is controlled by a user defined repeat region relation, it is
currently not possible to split and merge this type of custom balloon
quantity as can be done for standard quantity balloons.
