Symbol not showing

Symbol not showing

We have a new drawing created from a template, but the symbols are not showing. When the template is opened, everything looks fine. I have checked layers and drawing state, and they have not been chnaged from the template. Adding a new symbol goes to the proper layer, which is not hidden, but it fails to show on the drawing face. The drawing has been loaded on 2 workstations, WinXP-64,with the same issue.

Has anyone else sen this or have a recommendation to check?

Hi Ben...

I'd try a few things (one at a time) to see which one may have an effect:

* Try removing the symbol from ALL layers. Save Status (for layers). Save file/reopen. Do the symbols show up yet?

* DELETE the symbols from the drawing (go to Symbol Gallery and remove them). Place them back from your symbols library. Save/reopen, etc. Any luck?

* Change the background color of your drawing. Do the symbols show? You may also try selecting the symbols and changing their color.

The basic ideas we're covering here are that the symbols are existing on more than one layer at once. For instance, you can put a feature on one layer and a datum within the feature (like an axis created from an axis point) on a separate layer. This causes odd behavior. Maybe inadvertently the symbols (or a portion thereof) are being managed on another layer. Deleting the symbol and re-loading it covers any problems with the symbol definitions internal to the drawing itself. And finally the background /color toggling checks to make sure the symbols aren't somehow being drawn in a line color that makes them appear invisible.

I'm not sure any of these will work, but it's certainly worth a try. Also... a longshot... but none of these symbols were loaded using the OLE (object-linking and embedding) functionality, were they? Those things always go a bit haywire.

Thanks and good luck!

It may be erased, try showing all symbols.

Try setting all layers to unhidden, save the status, regen the views and draft entities.
If it displays with everything else, it's a layer problem. Try resetting the layers to the desired status, save status, and regen the views and draft. If it disappears again, you'll need to discover what layers are causing the symbol to be invisible.
