The axis ID of a flat bottom hole changes when its end is toggled to conic end

Due to the internal working of the hole feature the axis of a flat bottom hole does not remain the sam when changed to conic end.

 

this is why creo uses the extrude algorithm for a flat bottom hole and the revolve algorithm for all the other hole types.

 

if find this annoying because all the child feature linked to the hole axis, fail when i change its end.

 

i think this must be changed

From your description I am not sure I completely understand. I am operating on the assumption that the internal featured ID of an axis is changing when you are editing a feature and then children of the changed feature are failing die to lost references.

 

Have you tried to create an intent datum axis for the children to reference? This may resolve your problem.

is correct, the solutions are welcome. but i do not understand why the hole feature must change id for its axis. i think is something to correct.

 

it fails even creating a datum  intent axis. 

 

every type of feature that refers to the hole axis, fails if the holes axis change ID.

then edit the first hole and switch to conic end.

 

see the second hole feature failing.

 

this happens whatever the child feature is.

Hi,

I guess that described behavior is not bug. Simply said ... PTC has chosen this method of implementation. If you change hole type, then Creo removes "old" feature and "creates" the new one.

To solve your problem you have to develop a specific hole creation method linked to Creo behavior. In short, to adapt to software behavior.

Hi,

my advice ... forget about it ... PTC has to resolve lot of other problems (worse than this one). They have no time to change existing feature implementation...

Using an intent datum axis to control the hole placement as well as the counterbore as you show in your example I am able to change the drill profile on the parent hole feature without failure of the c'bore, this would appear to solve your stated problem. I was able to move and pattern the hole and c'bore which would suggest that this is pretty stable for this use case. This approach can be extended to other placement options as well.
