Thinking about submitting a topic to the Call for Presentation for PTC Live Global Anaheim, June 9 – 13 are you dragging your feet

Thinking about submitting a topic to the Call for Presentation for PTC Live Global Anaheim, June 9 – 13 are you dragging your feet, scared to get up in front of your peers, do not think you have the time or are qualified? Do not let any of these or other excuses prevent you from sharing your knowledge, read on….

Deciding to present at PTC Live Global can provide an opportunity to develop a project of personal interest. Such an initiative may also be implemented in your work place. You can create your own opportunity and in turn gain the respect of your peers and management. It can be far too easy to talk yourself out of taking such a step …too hard, haven't got time, what would I speak about? Don't give in to lack of confidence. Think outside the box – choose a topic that will challenge you personally and professionally. Below are some other benefits that you will attain from presenting in Anaheim.

1. Secure your conference attendance and gain invaluable networking experience

There is much to gain from writing and presenting a presentation to your peers. Self-satisfaction is a major benefit and an important one, however there are many more. In most workplaces conference attendance is limited due to the cost involved in fees, travel and accommodation, as well as in the staff leave necessary to attend the conference. Presenting is a clear way of demonstrating why your employer should send YOU to a conference, ahead of, or as well as, one of the "big wigs". Once your attendance is secured, you are in a better position to network more effectively. Meeting people will become much easier, since other users might actually seek you out to discuss the content presented during your session.

2. Other professionals will remember you because of your presentation

Because you have taken a risk and presented your work to other professionals, this also means it’s more likely you’ll be remembered by the attendees. Hopefully you’ve conveyed your passion, enthusiasm and enjoyment of your niche and this has also inspired those listening. You can position yourself as an authority in your chosen area of interest.

Presenters are speaking from first-hand experience based on a project they have been involved in as part of their employment. All of us have this experience, whether it is from a beginner’s perspective participating in only one aspect of a small project or team process, or in the role of a project manager coordinating a more comprehensive study or project. Topics of a practical nature usually generate significant interest from industry members, as they are able to relate to what is presented, and may find solutions to issues they have also been trying to deal with. A presentation need not only deal exclusively in successes. Discussing projects that had not progressed quit

3. Position yourself as an authority in your chosen area of PTC interest

Through your presentation, you are also solidifying yourself as someone who is an authority in a particular PTC area. This can have a powerful ripple effect with you becoming known as the ‘go-to’ person in the community.

The very nature of presenting means that you’ve done extensive work, and possibly research, in the field you’re speaking about. You also have unique experiences that other can learn from.

4. Your presentation can continue to deliver ongoing benefits online after you finish

Following your conference presentation, PTC/USER will post your presentation on the portal for sharing with the community.
