Use sketch from one part, in another part

Hi, You guys probably do this all the time, but at the moment I model 2 parts that need to fit into each other independantly from one another. If I make changes on one part I have to update the other manually to suit. Is there a way you can copy a sketch from a part (an outline of the part for example) into another part, but for this sketch to update in the new part if you change it in the original part? You can then use this sketch in the new part to offset lines to create an outline on the new part, and you could see whether it was going to fit as you modeled the new part.

Joseph A quick and easy trick would be to use an assembly of both parts. Activate the second part (copy) and reference your sketch based on the first part. You can end up with some references hanging around based on that assembly, but this is the fastest trick. Second trick is to use a skeleton model and reference your part model sketches based on the skeleton. There are two other tricks I know of, copy geometry and inheritance models. Eric

I'd recommend using some sort of data sharing feature. An external copy geom would work well if the two parts do not coexist in an assembly. A skeleton is not necessary but it is nice if you don't have one part that can be set as the "master". You do need AAX to use copy geom features. If you don't have AAX you could use the "copy from different model" option. You can access those menus under the Edit, Feature Operations menu. Select copy and then use the option for different model.
