Warning while sweep

Warning while sweep

I am creating thrust cones and when i try to sweep the other cone it shows "Sweep outside the modell" and when i turn on the Section change option it fails to generate. Can any one help me out?

A commercial Creo license will not open your educational files, so most here can not open your part. It appears you are creating two cones in a single part file, this may not be best practice. Why are you using a single CAD part file to define the relative position of two physical parts? Are you using multiple bodies in this example part model?

 

Sharing a screenshot of the model tree fully expanded may lead to progress.

 

The error message is difficult to troubleshoot without access to the actual file with the problem. If you explain your design objective for the model(s) then someone can probably suggest a path to get there.

The thrust cones are attached to helical gears, and I don't have the exact measurements for the thrust cones. I have to do simulations on this with different cone angles to find stresses on gear teeth. As in the pictures below, I have created a cone with a chamfer at an angle of 15° on pinion (small) and with that reference, I created another cone with the same angle on driven gear (bigger). For the cone on bigger gear, I used sweep which fails or get generated outside the body. Any suggestions what method would be useful to get thrust cones as in the pictures? I can send the gear file.

Why not do away with the helical gears and use a straight-cut gearset, they're more efficient and don't have a thrust component.  Or, keep the helical and use roller bearings rated for thrust loads.

 

OR, you could get fancy and use herringbone gears.

Like these (image found on the 'net)  I did one for fun in my photo album, but the involute isn't accurate.  Although, I did find a way to create a true involute without using a CS at every geartooth.  herringbone-gear44506352719.jpg
