add a "weight" to a part instead of adding a "density"

Is there a way to add a "weight" to a part instead of adding a "density"
for the Mass Prop to calculate the weight? Some vendor parts we download
are not solid therefore the calculation from the density is not
accurate.

Thanks

Steve

Yes,

Edit > Setup > Mass Props

Change the pull-down menu from Geometry to Geometry and Parameters

Pick the Edit button.

Enter the weight in the Mass field.

Pick the OK button.

Now when you pick Generate Report you'll see the value you entered.

Apparently the value entered through Edit > Setup > Mass Props is the Alternate Mass Prop, rather than the Reported Mass Prop. You'll have to go through a bit of extra shenanigans if you want the value reported in Analysis > Model > Mass Properties to show the entered value. This becomes important if, for example, you're using a format that is pulling a weight from the the Reported Mass Prop (pro_mp_mass)

Go to your assigned material and remove the density.

Enter this in your relations:

Interesting topic. Yeah how is everyone dealing with this. I tell the users
to use our base "zero mass" material and to adjust the density until the
mass is correct. Obviously with a sheet-body model one has to create a box
solid inside of it or otherwise solidify it for this to work. I instruct my
users to use the spec for the asm/part to set the mass appropriately.
Maybe someone out there has a map key or script that automates some of this
stuff?

Alfonso

This was my reply to the original post:

Hi Steve,

Create the following parameter:

actual_weight (or whatever you want to call it) & input the "actual weight"
of the part

Add the following relation to your part:

mp_density=actual_weight/mp_volume(")

run mass properties & regenerate twice
