I work in WF3.
I want to move a part in an assy along a certain line which I have sketched.
It is a simple sketch (straight line/tangent curve/straight line).
I create a ASM-datapoint on the sketch and use "ratio" to decide the point's relative position along the sketch.
The moving of the part is controlled by adjusting the ratio between 0 and 1.
Now comes my problem. The datapoint will not move along the full sketch - it will only move within the segment of the sketch where I defined it. I believe I must convert the sketch to a curve which I have tried, using <insert;datum;curve;copy>. Although the resulting curve appears to follow the whole of the sketch, the result is the same. When defining the data point, it will only move within parts of the sketch.
I might add that if the sketch only consists of 1 item it works as intended.
How do I convert my sketch to a chain which the data point regards as one curve?
Using the option "through points" will only get me an approximation.

I suspect that the issue is with how you are selecting the curve when placing the datum point on it using length ratio. Use query select ( I think WF3 still uses query select) when selecting the curve to place the point on. This will present you with some options when selecting the curve. Make sure to select the whole curve.
This video shows how it is done in Creo 7. Query select is the functional analogue to the pick from list option seen in the video.
Thank you for answering but I couldn’t get it to work.
Attached asm-file plus a prt-file shows the assy where I have made a sketch and then copyid it to a curve.
The curve shows up as expected but when I definine a point on the curve it acts as 3 individual parts.
I do not see any files uploaded yet. If you are having issues, put the models in a zip file before uploading them.
This video shows how to create the point along the curve in Creo 7. It should work the same way in WF3 although the UI selections will look different.
Sorry, but the video-texts are so small that I cannot read them.
Can you mail it to me (in a zip file to prevent mail problems) to bertil@rogmark.com?
Kind regards
Bertil

Dear tbraxton!
Many thanks for your support and efforts.
After I had restarted Proe 3 times and rebooted my PC twice, the Creo-Almighty decided I have had enough trouble and dutifully let me move my assy-point along the whole of the curves.
Ergo – problem vanished!
Kind regards
Bertil
PS
Full screen mode did not help.
