parameters in a format.

parameters in a format.

Greetings,

I am working in a format (*.frm) from a client and see in the title block
some parameters that do not get populated when creating a drawing (even
though the part has the parameters.) Some fields do get populated.

The ones that do get filled in are parameters called in the format that are
like this :

&REV

The ones that don't are like this:

&DRAWN_BY:D

The issue is obviously the ":D" - like an FID in an assembly relation. But,
I have not noticed the ":D" tag before.

What is 😄 referring to and where does it live? The only params I see in
the format are ProI and such.

Thanks.

-Nate

A bit of humor....I'm sorry...I'm punchy ....it's a bit close to Friday...

Tag "smiley face"? 🙂

The Smiley Very Happy is using the &DRAWN_BY parameter from the drawing, not the part or assembly.

Lots of responses here with the unsurprising consensus that ":D" means that
it is a drawing parameter. I would have guessed that except:

1 - There isn't a drawing yet. I am in a Format.

2 - These parameters do not exist in the format. "Tools>Parameters>Modify"
yields "No parameters to select from"

So, where or how are these parameters declared? Does the simple fact that a
table cell in the format with text preceded by an ampersand create a
parameter and prompt for a value when starting a drawing? Can't be - what
type of parameter is created? This seems kind of awkward to me. I am used
to part parameters being declared to a drawing and I am only prompted for
their values if I forgot to enter the value in the part, or if I am working
from someone else's part that does not have those params. etc.

I am feeling obtuse - like I am missing something. My solution so far is to
strip the 😄 from the title block and add the params to my start part. But,
I shouldn't need a solution, right? This is not a problem. It is intended
functionality. Do you use drawing params? Why are they good, and do you
always get prompted to enter their values when starting a new drawing?

Thanks.

Again.

I suggest you look at my ProE Admin 101 presentation

Look at the section on drawing templates & drawing programs slide 34-36, and video on slide 69

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in summarizing.

The suffix ":D" after the format parameter means the parameter belongs to
the drawing - not the part.

There is a TPI from PTC that explains some things about this sent to me -
Thanks Randy:
