random pattern

Hi alls,

I'm wondering if it would be possible to modeling a kind of random pattern.

The aim is to make random holes in a sheetmetal part (varying diameters and
positions).

However, distance between 2 holes must be few millimeters so it's not
completely random pattern.

Any idea on how to do this ?

Thanks,

GB

Pattern table?

Create a uniform pattern BUT make sure the instances are in a Group, then right click on the pattern and you will have the option Unpattern, shift select all the groups and Ungroup if needed, now all the instances are independent features.

I used this method recently to create an Aero chocolate bar style pattern (you have Aero in the US?) - random hemisphere cuts into a surface.

I would think the best way to do it is to do a bit of programming in
your favorite programming language, and then use a pattern table in the
Pro/E model. I think you will quickly run into limitations within Pro/E
if you wish to check for overlapping circles etc. (Does Pro/E even have
a random() function?)

A simpler way of doing it: create an excel sheet with random positions
and diameters, and then simply remove the overlapping circles by hand.
Then put the result into the hole table.
