ref pattern type not allowed
Gurus,
I thought I did this in Wildfire 4 but now I'm not sure. I'm trying to use the "Pattern à Reference Pattern à Reference Type à Both" option and it won't work.
I assembled a bracket then patterned that bracket. Then I assembled a screw into a hole (patterned) in the bracket. Now I want to pattern the screw into all the bracket holes and all the brackets. Before, I thought, Pro/E was smart enough to recognize both patterns [the holes and the brackets] so I could pick both [as in "use both patterns"]. Now I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or this feature "pattern both" only works with grouped patterns.
Am I missing something here? You can see in the images that Pro/E recognizes both patterns depending on how I assemble the screw. I'm confused...please help.
See both images.

Thanks,

Eric,
Assemble the bracket, then assemble the screw to the bracket and pattern the screw. Then put the bracket and the 4 screw pattern into a Group and Pattern the Group.

Thanks Chris. That is a usable option but I'd rather not clutter up my model tree with groups if I don't have to. Do you know how/when to use the "both" option? I don't understand why this is isn't working.

Eric,
That's not how the reference pattern a patterned pattern works.
First, you create a pattern. Then you pattern that pattern. When you assemble a component to the lead feature of the lead pattern, then the reference pattern gives you the Group and Both options. It doesn't work if you pattern a component that contains a pattern itself.
