save-as with update parent SUMMARY

Thanks for 2 responses from Janet G & Randy J.

1.
select object(s) to save-as
File | Save As
set new name(s)
select Next
select Parent(s) that you want to update (they have to be checked
out or new objects)
select the "Replaces the original with the new copy for the
selected parent" icon
in 9.1 M070 this is the left most icon
select Finish

2.

I assume you already know how to use "Save As" in the workspace. You
select the object(s) to be duplicated, then "File" > "Save As", and give
them new names. Then you hit the "Next" button, and you'll be shown a
list of all the parents of that object in your workspace. By default,
all are set to "Reuse" the old part. Select the parent assemblies you
want to contain the new part, and then the "Use Copy" button. Then
"Finish". (Before you start, you should make sure that the parents you
want to change are "editable", checked out if necessary, etc.)

I did a sample file and documents in simple attached pdf. <--------

I was just informed:

The one thing I don't see mentioned (and it's the deal breaker for save
as and replace) is that the parents you want to replace the new parts
into, cannot be modified in the workspace. It the parents are marked as
modified, the save as will work but the replace will not.

Hi Wayne,

We use 9.1 M060 and as long as the parent is checked-out then it can be marked modified in the workspace and the save-as and replace works fine (same as if the parent was marked modified and new). Perhaps it isn't working for you because the modifications aren't uploaded?
