Guru's,
I need to determine if aconical coil spring with a single inactive coil at the small end can be installed over a given shoulder diameter without permanent deformation. I don't really see how to set this up in Mechanica. Certainly I can apply a radial load to the face of the end of the coil at a magnatude sufficient to produce a deflection large enough to pass over the specified shoulder and look at the stress levels. Stress levels below yield for the material mean it's still elastic. The trouble comes in setting up the constraint.Essentially, when installing this spring we are ONLY pushing on the dead coil over a ramped surface (cone) and over the shoulder. I thought maybe Icould just analyze an simple ring, with about a 45º open end, but then it's still a matter of what doI constrain. Any thoughts or recommendations...
thanks...
Paul.
Paul,
Have you seen the Creo 1.0 Simulate staple example?
I'm thinking you should be able to use the same technique.
I do not have access to creo 1 at this time

Paul,
The video you are interested in is called Introduction to Creo Simulate Start watching at 26 minutes 11 sec
This is a webinar I saw a few weeks ago. I thought the whole webinar was a good overview of Simulate.
What your wanting to do may require the Advance Simulate license.
