Increase FPS in Creo View

Is there any way to speed up 3D rendering in Creo View?

 

I am working with a 4K monitor using a mid-range graphics card. Simple models render nice and smooth. However, as soon as it gets into the realm of some 100,000 polygons, the FPS drops off a lot.

 

The only view mode where I can rotate even very complex models smoothly is Wireframe, so it could be that the hidden line calculation is the problem. In Creo Parametric, there seems to be a setting on this: "Fast hidden lines removal", see below.

 

Is there anything I can do to Creo View to improve the issue?

 

You can reduce the amount of calculation that the system performs when dynamically orienting a shaded model by controlling the level of detail at which surfaces are displayed. The result is that the movements of the model appear smoother and better synchronized with the driving force. The effectiveness of using levels of detail (LODs) in a model is dependent on the configuration of your system.
To control system performance:
1.Click File > Options > Model Display.
2.Under Model display settings when reorienting the model, do the following.
Select Fast hidden lines removal check box to enable hardware acceleration of dynamic spinning with hidden lines, datums, and axes. This can also be set using the fasthlr configuration option.
Set the frame rate while spinning as follows:
To attempt to guarantee the time it takes to draw a frame during spinning, select Use time to draw frames check box. Selecting the check box enables Set frames per seconds rate to. This can also be set using the frames_per_sec configuration option.
Using Set frames per seconds rate to set the minimum number of displays per second during spinning. This can also be set using the frames_per_sec_value configuration option.
3.Under Shaded model display settings, set the level of detail as follows:
To use levels of detail in shaded models during dynamic orientation, select Use level of detail for the shaded model when manipulating the view check box. This can also be set using the configuration option lods_enabled
Using Set detail percentage to set the maximum level of detail that the system calculates. The range is from 0% through 100%. A setting of 100% (the default) represents no loss of detail. A setting of 0% represents almost a total loss of detail. This can also be set using the lods_value configuration option.
4.Click OK in the Creo Parametric Options dialog box. A message is displayed.
5.In the message box, click No to apply the settings to the current session only.
Click Yes if you want to save the settings to a config.pro file for using later in another session.

The only setting I've found to manipulate graphics information is the frame rate setting shown below.  Try toggling it to see if you get improvement.

Wow, that tip is a total killer! Thank you Bill!

 

I have now simply entered "60 Hz" instead of "Use best frame rate", and models of any complexity now can be rotated and moved completely smoothly. Not all parts are rendered while moving, but as soon as you stop, it catches up in a second.

 

This is much better than the previous, jerky motion, where, by the way, not all parts were displayed either. Awesome!
