Arbortext 6.0 intermittent table breaking (looks like deep content splitting) ... first format only

Here's an odd one.

We have noticed that occasionally tables will break within a cell despite
having deepcontentsplitting = off. The row splitting will only happen on a
first run of the content. PDFs run a second (or any subsequent) time, do
not exhibit the cell break. This *seems* to be true across users meaning if
Mary runs the PDF and generates the bad break, then she runs it again or if
John or someone else runs it ... the break does not occur.

Yeah, I know it's just past 4:20 Pacific but believe me, I made other
people confirm this very, very strange behavior before I was willing to
talk about it in public. Next week, I'll be presenting on spontaneous human
combustion.

So ... has anyone noticed this in 6.0 m010 (or anything newer that 5.3 m110?

Intermittent is bad enough, but with a one-time-incident per file, I can't
even imagine how to debug this.

I hear that Sasquatch is still using Epic Editor 4.3.1 because of these types of problems. Elvis and the Loch Ness Monster, likewise.

I wonder if it makes a difference when using Print Preview. Does doing Print Preview one pass (even though it makes 2 passes anyway) do anything different than all passes? Does Print Composer using Distiller behave differently than direct to PDF?

This sounds like something weird going on in the PE cache, like if PE
decides it has a cached version of the dvi file, it processes that
instead of regenerating from scratch, except some setting in PE is
different under those circumstances.

Maybe it's time to call in Mulder and Sculley...

I don't care what they (especially Brandon) say about you, Ed, you're
alright.

preview force onepass

replicates the problem. Supercool!

Thanks, Clay. I think you're right ...

Ed's tip is going to help me isolate stylesheet or markup problems if they
exist or workarounds or submit a clean case ... if it comes to a case,
resolution might be recognizing and resolving a weird required pass count
issue of some sort.
