DITA: How do global search for string in all topics ref'd by map?

Heh, I was just typing up a very similar response, but Liz had faster
fingers than me. 🙂

BTW, the Resolved for Edit document is not a flattened document, but
imports the individual topics by reference, so the changes you make will
appear in the individual topic files. Which is just what you want, I
think.

Hi, all...

Anyone know if you can do the following in Arbortext 5.4 or later?

Open a DITA map or bookmap, and then do a Find operation that searches through all of the topics that are referenced in the bookmap.

I have two XML/Text editors that can search all files in a directory and its subdirectories and return a list of the files that contain text that matches the search string. You can then double-click a file in the list to open that file and go right to the location of the matched string, with the string highlighted.

We would like similar functionality with Arbortext, where instead of searching all files in a directory and its subs, it searches through all topics ref'd in the currently open map.

Any ideas or alternatives?

BTW, if no such capability exists, then if and when we move our writers from FrameMaker to Arbortext, they may view it as a step backwards.

Thx

Steve

Hi Steve,

Well, here's one way:

In the bookmap, from the Edit menu, select Resolved Document->For Editing
Then run the find as usual.

Hi, Elizabeth!

That'll do!! Thanks for the quick and spot-on reply.

Steve

Yep, thanks, Clay!
