When converting to 2D is there away to keep objects separate?

When converting to 2D is there away to keep objects separate?

When in 3D all components are separate, when you convert to 2d it becomes one image? I can ungroup untill they are free, but I loose the conection to the cad model. Can I convert to 2D and still have the components as individual components?
