JPG imports?

Is there any way to import say a JPG or any other files into Pro and then
use them for references to sketch around?
Thanks,
marty

Pro/Concept a new module in Wildfire will allow you to do just that. I
believe the cost was around $2000. It looks very powerful from the demo I
saw, but as you know demos are sometimes not all what they appear to be.

Hi Marty.

Insert an object onto a drawing, or
add a texture to a surface in a model.
For object creation in a drawing,
Make sure your jpeg is in the same
Directory as your drawing. Otherwise
Pro/E gets very hit and miss.
For a texture, add your jpeg to
Your texture directory...

Marty,

You can use a jpeg or image file; I've done it before to duplicate labels
such from scanned images.. This is how you do it in 2001.

What you do is make a flat surface (Feature>Create>Surface>Flat) as the
first feature on one of the datum planes. The surface should be the same
size and shape as your final part. Then, create a custom color (View>Model
Display> Colors and Appearances) and under the Detail tab, select DECAL and
MAP, and browse to the jpg file. Click OK.

Next, in the Appearances dialog, change the pull-down from Part to Surfaces
and apply your new 'color' to the flat surface you created. A positioning
dialog will open with wheels that will let you scale, rotate, move etc the
decal around on the surface you created. This is why it is important to set
your surface to the same size as what you want, as it is the only way for
you to get the decal to roughly 1:1 scale. Once you've made the decal
completely fill the surface and not run over it you are done. Mostly.

Now, in sketcher, you will see the jpeg image and you can trace around it,
albeit not parametrically but if you are careful with your decal you can get
pretty close.

Here's the rub: as you start building protrusions, you will not be able to
see the surface behind it, and in wireframe mode it will disappear
completely. A workaround is, instead of making a protrusion next, to
instead make a sketched datum curve. Then you can trace away and when you
are finished those yellow curves will always be visible in Sketcher whether
you are in wireframe or shaded mode. Plus, they don't have to be closed
loops and you can make many sketches.
