geometry intersecting a line

Does anyone know of a way to determine the thicknesses of all geometry
intersecting with a line? That is I would like to draw a line at a given
angle and see a report listing the component and the wall thickness (or
thicknesses) of each component that the line passes through.

You should be able to draw your 3D line (datum curve) and then place datum points along the curve on the line where the surfaces intersect.
