We are upgrading and I want to start writing Pro/Toolkit for Creo 3.0 The specified compiler is Microsoft Visual Studio.net 2012. It is difficult to purchase this version any more as it is 2 versions back. Can anyone recommend a legitimate vendor for this?
Thanks in Advance!
we use VS 2015 with the
- VS 2005
- VS 2010
- VS 2012
compilers. So we create the project inside of the express version and then import them into VS 2015 (we also have licenses for the older versions so i don't know if it is a license violation thing).
But it work like a charm and you can also have different VS version into one solution file that are called with different compilers in background (if you need to compile for 2010 Creo 2.0 and 2012 Creo 3.0).
In our case it make maven buildlines much simpler and faster. But you need all the "old" VS versions installed on the same PC so VS can find and use the compiler.
This issue came up during the Customization Technical Committee today. PTC volunteered to the toolkit developers that requiring older versions of Visual Studio will be a problem for us.
Patrick Williams suggested that we do essentially what Eike advises above:
I haven't tried this myself yet, so use a little caution if you try it yourself.

I ended up using the free 2012 Studio express version and it seems to be working quite fine for me.
Hmm which answer do I mark correct here. BTW, the TC committee meetings are this week?
