Style theming is a Beta feature that allows you to customize the look of your mashups and widgets.   A style theme is a set of styling properties for elements such as text, colors, and lines that you can apply to a mashup. You can manage styles for multiple mashups more easily by using style themes. Style theme apply on a mashup level, unlike style definitions, which apply on a widget level. When you apply a style theme to a mashup, all embedded widgets and mashups will derive styling properties from the style theme for the top level mashup. You can perform the following tasks:   • Create and modify style themes. • Apply a style theme to one or more mashups. • Reuse a style theme by using Import/Export. • Define custom CSS for a style theme. CSS rules are applied to all mashups that use the style theme.   Style theme support is limited to the following types widgets: • New widgets — You can only apply a style theme to these widgets. • Hybrid widgets — You can use style definitions or a style theme to style these widgets.   NOTE: You can enable or disable style themes for hybrid widgets by using the (BETA) UseThemeForHybrids property in the mashup properties panel. ThingWorx 8.2 System Requirements ThingWorx 8.2 Helpcenter The following feature enhancements and bug fixes exist in ThingWorx 8.2.0: Due to security updates, a minimum version of Apache Tomcat 8.0.47 or 8.5.23 should be used with ThingWorx. Enhancements Platform • Included information about opting out of metrics reporting. For more information, see the ThingWorx Metrics Reporting Services Configuration section in the Platform Subsystem help topic. • The Script Log Error has been added to improve error logging for scripts. • Added support to allow mashups to be rendered using jQuery 3.x runtime. • Query service optimization. This includes improved performance for the QueryPropertyHistory and QueryPropertyNamedHistory services. Previously, a database call was made for every logged property. With this improvement, one database call is made for all logged properties, resulting in the following improvements: ▪ A ~20% decrease in memory usage for the QueryPropertyHistory and QueryNamedPropertyHistory service queries if no filters are applied (PostgreSQL and MSSQL). ▪ Decreased time to execute query (~10%) for the QueryPropertyHistory and QueryNamedPropertyHistory services. Depends on latency to the database (PostgreSQL and MSSQL). ▪ Additional decrease in memory, based on the filter supplied during the query for QueryPropertyHistory and QueryNamedPropertyHistory services. (PostgreSQL and MSSQL). If a filter is applied that reduces the record count by 50%, then there is an additional 50% decrease in memory usage on top of the other 50% described in the first point. This optimization also results in an approximate 10% decrease in memory for single property queries. The Audit Subsystem has been added. It supports the following capabilities: • Automatically add audit entries to online storage. • Search for audit entries (use the QueryAuditHistory service) stored online. • Archive online audit entries to offline storage (automatically performed daily by default). • Export audit data, using the language selected for the export. • Purge online audit data on the basis of a specified number of days for audit data to remain online and also on the specified number of rows to keep online. • Clean up archived audit data automatically, based on a configured schedule. • The security of the PASSWORD base type has been enhanced and is now encrypted. See Passwords for more information. • Added the Collection Widget, which allows you to replicate/repeat mashups and content by using infotables to dynamically supply visual content and data. Refer to the KCS article for additional information here • Additional capability has been added to New Composer. For more information, refer to the ThingWorx Community blog. • The licensing process has been improved. An activation ID is no longer required to obtain a license and a new license file is not required for minor or major release upgrades. ◦ For connected scenarios, activation IDs are no longer required in the platform-settings.json file. ◦ For disconnected scenarios, go to the enhanced PTC Support site pages, select the product, enter a Device ID, and retrieve a license. • You can enable the Application Key Authenticator when SSO is enabled by editing the sso-settings.json configuration. For more information, see Configure the sso-settings.json File. • The CSS Editor was added to Mashup Builder, which allows developers to create modern experiences with responsiveness, animations, and advanced styling and behaviors. Refer to the KCS article for additional information here. • Added support for "Store and Forward" functionality to the interface between KEPServerEX and the ThingWorx platform. KepServerEX can be configured to store updated property data to disk when disconnected from the ThingWorx platform and will send that data gracefully when the connection is re-established. • In mashups, row and column gadget sizes 1 to 8 are now available. TW-25477 Bug Fixes Platform Related JIRA • Fixed an issue with Thing Shapes when editing subscriptions twice before canceling or closing in which the second edit was not saved. TW-28718 • Fixed an issue that was causing SQL Server apparent deadlock exceptions. TW-28208 • Added useful log information for troubleshooting LDAP and Active Directory errors. TW-23873 • Fixed an issue with exception handling in DSLProcessor in which line numbers were not included in the log. TW-18042 TW-17255 • Fixed an issue in which opening/closing brackets are not highlighted if there were 100 or more lines of code in a JavaScript service. TW-12740 Mashup Builder • Service error notification messages were fixed to display on multiple lines based on line breaks in the message. TW-24738 • Fixed an issue in which a master mashup header image was not fully displayed. PSPT-3365 Extensions Related JIRA • The Google Maps JavaScript API was updated to prevent the use of the library without an api key. If you are using the Google Map extension in your application, verify that the extension's metadata.xml file is updated with the correct URL (https://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false&key=YOUR_API_KEY). Re-zip the extension and reimport into ThingWorx after making this change.

How to Display Data in Charts Guide Part 1   Overview   This project will introduce various Chart Widgets. Following the steps in this guide, you will learn how to graphically represent multiple data points simultaneously. We will teach you how to utilize the Pie, Label, Proportional, Bubble, Time Series, and Event Charts. NOTE: This guide's content aligns with ThingWorx 9.3. The estimated time to complete ALL 3 parts of this guide is 60 minutes.    Step 1: Introduction   As an IoT application developer, there are times when you want to display multiple data points simultaneously. In this situation, it is often helpful to make use of one of the various Chart Widgets. This guide will discuss the following Chart Widget options: *Old widget = no web component replacement Pie – old widget Label (Legacy) Proportional – old widget Bubble – old widget Line – new web component Event – old widget Before you can display this information in your UI, you need to first configure the ThingWorx system to store those values. For the time-series charts (including both the Line and Event Charts), you need to store information in a time-series friendly manner. In this case, we’ll use a Value Stream to store Property value changes. We’ll use an Info Table (similar to a spreadsheet) to track the values for the non-time-series charts (Pie, Label, Proportional, and Bubble).   Step 2: Create Data Shape   Many data structures in ThingWorx require a Data Shape to format their values. This is true for a Stream, a Data Table, and an Info Table. We'll be using an Info Table in this example. NOTE: Any time you use an Info Table, you must first define a Data Shape. From the Browse tab of ThingWorx Composer, click Modeling > Data Shapes, + New.   In the Name field, enter DDCDataShape.   If Project is not already set, search for and select PTCDefaultProject.  At the top, click Field Definitions.   Click + Add. In the Name field, enter PrimaryKey. Change Base Type to INTEGER. Check the Is Primary Key box. The primary key is used to uniquely identify a row of data. DataShapes used for DataTable configuration must have a primary key. 9. Click the "Check with a +" button for Done and Add. 10. In the Name field, enter Label. 11. Leave Base Type as the default of STRING. 12. Click the "Check with a +" button for Done and Add. 13. Repeatedly add additional fields, each with a Base Type of NUMBER, until all of the following Field Definitions have been entered: Value XAxis Data ASensor BSensor CSensor XValue YValue BubbleValue Note that you'll want to click the "Check" button for Done after entering the last definition. 14. Click Save.    Step 3: Create Value Stream   An easy way to record changes to a Thing Property is via enabling the Logged functionality. However, without a place in which to log the changes, logging the Property does nothing. One way in which to create a storage location for Property changes is a Value Stream. On the ThingWorx Composer Browse tab, click Data Storage > Value Streams, + New.   In the Choose Template pop-up, select ValueStream and click OK.   In the name field, enter DDCValueStream.   If Project is not already set, search for and select PTCDefaultProject.  At the top, click Save.   Click here to view Part 2 of this guide.

Previously Installing & Connecting C SDK to Federated ThingWorx with VNC Tunneling to the Edge device Installing and configuring Web Socket Tunnel Extension on ThingWorx Platform Overview     Using the C SDK Edge client configuration we did earlier, we'll now create above illustrated setup. In this C SDK Client we'll push the data to ThingWorx Publisher with servername : TW802Neo to ThingWorx Subscriber servername : TW81. Notice that the SteamSensor2 on the pulisher server is the one binding to the C SDK client and the FederatedSteamThing on subscriber is only getting data from the SteamSensor2. Let's crack on!   Content   Configure ThingWorx to publish Configure ThingWorx to subscribe Publish entities from Publisher to the Subscriber Create Mashup to view data published to the subscriber Pre-requisite Minimum requirement is to have two ThingWorx servers running. Note that both ThingWorx systems can be publisher & subscriber at the same time.   Configure ThingWorx Publisher   Configuring Federation Subsystem   1. Navigate to ThingWorx Composer > Subsystems > Federation Subsystems and configure the following highlighted sections   Essentially its required to configure the Server Identification, i.e. My Server name (FQDN / IP) , My Server Description (optional) Federation subscribers this server publishes to, i.e. all the server you want to publish to from this server. Refer to the Federation Subsystem doc in the Help Center to check detail description on each configurable parameter.   2. Save the federation subsystem   Configuring a Thing to be published   1. Navigate back to the Composer home page and select the entity which you'd like to publish 2. In this case I'm using SteamSensor2 which is created to connect to the C SDK client 3. To publish edit the entity and click on Publish checkbox, like so 4. Save the entity   Configure ThingWorx Subscriber     Configuring Federation Subsystem   1. Navigate to ThingWorx Composer > Subsystems > Federation Subsystems and configure the following highlighted sections   Essentially its required to configure the Server Identification, i.e. My Server name (FQDN / IP) , My Server Description (optional) Refer to help center doc on Federation Subsystems should you need more detail on the configurable parameter If you only want to use this server as a subscriber of entities from the publishing ThingWorx Server, in that case you don't have to Configure the section Federation subscribers this server publishes to, I've configured here anyway to show that both servers can work as publishers and subscribers   2. Save the federation subsystem   Configuring a Thing to subscribe to a published Thing 1. Subscribing to an entity is fairly straight forward, I'll demonstrate by utilizing the C SDK client which is currently pushing values to my remote thing called SteamSensor2 on server https://tw802neo:443/Thingworx 2. I have already Published the StreamSensor2, see above section Configuring a Thing to be published 3. Create a Thing called FederatedStreamThing with RemoteThingWithTunnels as ThingTemplate, 4. Browser for the Identifier and select the required entity to which binding must be done, like so   5. Navigate to the Properties section for the entity, click Manage Bindings to search for the remote properties like so for adding them to this thing:     6. Save the entity and then we can see the values that were pushed from the client C SDK     7. Finally, we can also quickly see the values pulled via a Mashup created in the subscriber ThingWorx , below a is a simple mashup with grid widget pulling values using QueryPropertyHistory service

  Add a Google Map to your UI that visually presents geographical data.   GUIDE CONCEPT This project will introduce how to visually present geographical data in your application. Showing data on a map is a valuable feature for IoT application.   Following the steps in this guide, you will utilize the Google Maps Widget and explore it’s ability to show multiple Things.   We will teach you how to use Geological data to convey pertinent information in your UI.   YOU'LL LEARN HOW TO   Download and import the Google Maps Widget extension Create a Mashup and add a Google Maps Widget Configure the Google Maps Widget to display the locations of multiple Things   NOTE: This guide's content aligns with ThingWorx 9.3. The estimated time to complete ALL 2 parts of this guide is 30 minutes.      Step 1: Configure Google Maps Widget   When you download the Google Maps Widget, it does not include an API key. Google allows some limited use of their map API without a key, however it is recommended that you obtain and add your own Google Maps API key or Client ID (for Google Maps API for Work licenses) to the Google Maps Widget.   The ThingWorx hosted server has already been configured with the Google Maps Widget, including an API key for evaluation use.   Refer to the Google Maps API documentation to obtain your own API key, then follow the steps below.   Download the Google Maps widget from PTC Partner, IQNOX NOTE:  It is necessary to create an account on IQNOX, but the download is free       2. In the lower-left side of Composer, click Import/Export, then Import.           3. In the Import From File pop-up, under Import Option select Extension from the drop-down, then click Browse        4. Navigate to the .zip file you downloaded.          5. Click Import in the Import From File pop-up, then click Close after file is successfully imported.        6. In the ThingWorx Browse tab, in the System section, click on Subsystems, then PlatformSubsystem.            7. Click on the Configuration tab, then click the Edit button if you are not already in edit mode.        8. Scroll down to the Required string to connect with Google for Google widgets field where you enter the Google Maps JavaScript URL with your API key: https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=<Your API key>            9. Click Save     Step 2: Add Google Maps Widget to Mashup   Click the Browse folder icon on the top left of ThingWorx Composer.       2. Select Mashups in the left-hand navigation, then click + New to create a new Mashup.                          3. For Mashup Type select Responsive.               NOTE: A Responsive Mashup scales with a browser's screen size. In the steps below we will create 5 containers, one for each widget, to organize how the widgets are presented.        4. Click OK.        5. Enter a name for your Mashup.        6. If Project is not already set, click the + in the Project text box and select the PTCDefaultProject.        7. Click Save        8. Select the Design tab to display Mashup Builder.        9. Click the Widget tab on the top-left, then enter map inside the Filter Widgets field.        10. Drag-and-drop the Google Map widget onto the Mashup.         Step 3: Download Sample Entities   We have created a file with sample entities for this exercise.   Download demoTractors.xml to your computer.       2. Click Import/Export in the lower left of Composer, then select Import          3. Click From File in the drop down, then Browse.        4. Browse to the demoTractors.xml file and click Open.        5. Click Import, then Close after entities are successfully imported.     Step 4: Add Markers to Google Maps Widgets   To display markers on the map you must bind an Info Table to the Widget's Data Property and specify which column has location information. In this example we will use the QueryImplementingThingsWithData Service to bind a group of Things created with the same Template.   Click the + button in the Data tab on the right side of the Mashup Builder window             2. In the Add Data pop-up, click Thing Templates from the Entity Type drop down.                3. Select a Template from the list that has a Location property and was used to create Things. For this exercise, use the ConnectedTractor Template that was imported from the sample file downloaded in the prior step.            4. Enter query into the filter text box then click the arrow to the right of QueryImplementingThingsWithData.                                              5. Click the Execute on Load check box, then click Done. This will cause the QueryImplementingThingsWithData Service to execute as soon as Mashup is loaded.                                          6. Expand Returned Data if you do not see All Data then click and drag All Data onto the Google Maps Widget.        7. Click Data in the Select Binding Target pop-up.          8. In the Properties panel in the lower left, scroll to see the LocationField property and select Location, the name of the Property with location information.       Test Map Operation   Click Save to save your Mashup.       2. Click View Mashup to see the Google Maps Widget displaying the locations of each Thing.     NOTE: The Google Maps Widget has built-in functionality that allows users to pan and resize the map as well as switch to satellite photo maps.     Click here to view Part 2 of this Guide.

A while back, when I was learning about the ThingWorx platform, I could not find any good description of how InfoTables worked so I reverse engineered everything I could about them from a javascript perspective and wrote a short paper that I think is still of use today so I posted a copy here. It discusses what role InfoTables have as a ThingWorx primitive for passing data to and from ThingWorx and some of the lesser known capabilities that the data structure itself has built in.     Modernize your Mashups with CSS to enhance the presentation of your application.   GUIDE CONCEPT   This project will introduce using CSS to create a customized, consistent look and feel for your IoT application.   Following the steps in this guide, you will create a custom CSS class definitions and bind these classes to Mashup features.   We will teach you how to present a professional-looking user interface and ensure consistency of style treatments within your application by implementing Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) in Mashups.     You'll learn how to   Create custom CSS classes using the integrated CSS editor Bind CSS classes to a Mashup and to individual Widgets Use Media queries to dynamically apply styling     Step 1: Custom CSS Benefits   You now have more flexibility to customize your application’s UI and improve the user experience using industry-standard web techniques. You can implement CSS in ThingWorx to control the visualization of your Mashup.   Feature                   Benefit Text Treatments Optimize text with shadow, color, font, and border Responsive UI Customize layout based on user actions and the data being displayed Media Queries Accommodate many screen sizes with flexboxes and other standard containers Animations Implement standard CSS key frames Customizations Modify application appearance without changing source Mashup Linting Expedite development with code auto-completion and design-time syntax warnings       Step 2: Access Sample Files   We created sample entities you can use to complete the steps in this guide. Download the attached Mashups_CustomCssTutorialMashup.xml From the Home page of Composer, click the Import/Export icon, then choose Import   Keep the default options and click Browse. Locate and select the CustomCssTutorialMashup.xml file you downloaded and extracted, click Open then Import.   Click Close after the Import successful message is displayed. Click the Browse tab in the left navigation panel, then click Mashups.                     6. Select the CustomCssTutorialMashup.                 7. Click View Mashup to view the Mashup.     NOTE: This is a simple Mashup designed to demonstrate how the UI changes when CSS is applied.       Step 3: Create CSS Rule Block   In this step, you will use the built-in editor to create a custom CSS class that will be used in the next step to modify the appearance of three buttons grouped by the Fieldset Widget.   Open the CustomCssTutorialMashup in Edit and Design view.     Click Custom CSS.     Copy the CSS class below and paste it into the Custom CSS editor: .myMashupClass .widget-fieldset .widget-ptcsbutton { box-shadow: 5px 5px 5px #888888; } NOTE: This class will create a shadow around all of the buttons that are in a Fieldset container  only after it is bound to a Mashup,   4. Click Save.     Tips   Press Ctrl -> Space to use the Auto-complete feature and see code snippets, which can expedite your development time.     The Linting feature will warn you if there are errors in your code, so you can fix them at design time.       Step 4: Apply Custom Class to Mashup   In this step we will demonstrate how to modify the look and feel of a Mashup without changing the Mashup itself. The myMashupClass we just created chains two selectors: the widget-fieldset and the widget-button. Only Widgets that are in both selector categories will be modified.   Click Design and select the Explorer tab, then select the top-level Mashup.     In the property panel in the lower left, locate the CustomClass property and type myMashupClass as the value. Press Tab to save the value change.     WARNING: You must press Tab after every property change in order for the new value to be saved.   4. Click Save then View Mashup to see that the buttons in the Field Set have shadow borders.       Step 5: Apply Custom Class to Widget   In addition to the Mashup level, you can apply style treatments directly to a Widget in your Mashup. In ThingWorx, the following Widgets have a CustomClass property you can modify:     For this example, we will make the text on one of the buttons all caps.   In the CustomCssTutorialMashup, click Custom CSS. Add the following css code: .myButtonClass .widget-ptcsbutton { text-transform: uppercase; }     Return to the Design view, and In the Explorer tab, click the button-3.     In the Property panel, enter myMashupClass to the CustomClass field, then press tab     Save then View Mashup the Mashup to see that the button text is now all caps.       Step 6: Bind Custom Class   The UI of a Mashup can be dynamically updated at runtime by binding the value of the CustomClass property to a dynamic data source such as: Services Mashup parameters Widgets (expression widgets for example)   In this portion of the guide, we will demonstrate modifying a Mashup in response to user actions:   Return to the Design view for the CustomCssTutorialMashup. In the Mashup Builder, click the Functions tab in the lower right, then expand Event Routers and expand eventsrouter-6     Click Output property and drag it onto the bottom button of the group of three buttons.     Select the CustomClass property from the pop-up to bind it to Button-4   In Mashup Builder click Custom CSS tab. Add the following css code: .myBoundButtonClass1 .widget-ptcsbutton { text-transform: lowercase; } .myBoundButtonClass2 .widget-ptcsbutton { text-transform: uppercase; }           7. Click Save and then View Mashup.           8. Click on each of the Apply buttons to see the results of a CSS class applied to in response to user actions.     Step 7: Use Media Queries   You can use Media queries to apply styling based on the characteristics of the device being used to access the application. For this example, we will use a CSS Class to hide three elements when the browser’s width is less than 600 pixels wide.   1. Open the CustomCssTutorialMashup in Edit and Design view, then click Custom CSS.     2. Copy the CSS class below and use the Custom CSS editor to add it to the top of the existing  CSS, then click Save. @media screen and (max-width: 1000px) { #root_ptcslabel-10-bounding-box { visibility: hidden; } #root_ptcstextfield-7-bounding-box{ visibility: hidden; } #root_ptcstextfield-12-bounding-box { visibility: hidden; } }   NOTE: The ID selector in your CSS must add root_ to the beginning, and -bounding-box to the end of the element’s ID shown in Mashup Builder.   3. Click View Mashup, then click and drag the edge of the browser window to reduce the width below 600 pixels.     NOTE: The three Widgets selected in the media class added in the last step will disappear as soon as the browser is less than 600 pixels wide.       Click here to view Part 2 of this guide.

Warning This post is quite long, has various chapters and you might get bored reading it. If you just want a summary read the "Use case" and "Conclusion" chapter - and maybe the "Required Logic" chapter, because I made a cool graph for it. The rest is all about implementation... Introduction I recently had the opportunity to deliver a ThingWorx training for Saint Gobain. One of the use cases for their ThingWorx application is monitoring machine errors and outages on the production line. If an outage or error status is triggered, the machine operator will see a popup on the monitoring screen where he is forced to select a root cause. This root cause will then be persisted in ThingWorx for more data transformation, analytics and reporting - like cost analysis or optimization opportunities. During the training we were also discussing on how such a forced root cause monitoring can be implemented via Mashups and the usage of modal popups. I've compiled the details into this post as it might also interest other developers. The ThingWorx Entities I'm using in this example can be downloaded from here Note: I'm using the word "Alert" here - but not in the context of a ThingWorx Property Alert... just beware to not be confused due to the wording. Use Case One of the requirements for Saint Gobain's IoT Solution was an interactive alert monitoring directly in the factory on the production machines. Let's say the machine has stopped, the root cause should be recorded. For this an interactive popup will be displayed on the machine's monitoring display and an employee has to choose the root cause from a pre-defined list. This could be planned outages, e.g. for maintenance or unplanned outages, e.g. material jam. The root cause will then be recorded and a history of outage causes can be stored in a ThingWorx value stream. This can then be later analyzed with e.g. ThingWorx Analytics capabilities to understand and optimize the machine's production capabilities and efficiency. As the root cause must be entered, the popup will be forced to be displayed when a certain condition / criteria is met - and it will only disappar when a root cause is chosen. The user should not be able to interact with any other elements of the Mashup and not be able to just close the popup. The popup will close itself and reset the initial condition once the root cause has been identified and chosen. Requirements Required Entities Required Logic Note: Just to make it easier to manage and export Entities, I will add all of the created elements in a new Project called RootCausePopups. All of the elements will have a "rcp_" added in front of their name - just to make it easier for me to find and identify them. Implementation Before we start - set a Project Context Create Entities Create a Popup Mashup Create the Main Mashup Testing the Mashups Conclusion Certain conditions (like the state of a checkbox) can be used to trigger modal popups. A modal popup forces a user interaction and the interaction will not offer any other option until a choice is made. With these parameters it's easy to have mandatory reaction from users when it's important to capture data which rely on the analysis of an engineer or a user - e.g. reasons for machine outages. Using this technique there's not much training required for staff, other than pushing a button with an option of their choice - this saves quite some time in capturing data in any other way (e.g. updating Excel files or manual pen-and-paper techniques). As this data is now part of the ThingWorx instance it can be used for further transformation, analysis or just for monitoring purposes There's of course more possibilities when it comes to states and formatting which would exhaust the context of this post - but feel free to explore... In the example we wouldn't need the textbox, but it's there to demonstrate if the correct values are persisted or not In the example we could of course also set the visibility of the checkbox to false, so that we would only see the popup and the Grid holding historic information We could also create different StateDefinitions to color-format / text-format the input differently from the output in the Grid If you found this interesting (and actually made it to the end of this post) - feel free to play with this concept a bit more... The dependencies might seem a bit difficult, but it should be easy to implement and to adjust to your own ideas and requirements.

Merging InfoTables can seem to be an overwhelming task in ThingWorx. What even IS an InfoTable?? The short answer is that an InfoTable is a specifically structured JSON object. Merging InfoTables is therefore as easy as incrementing through each, adding the columns of each to another table, and then populating the new table with data. For InfoTables with the same DataShapes, the built in "Union" service can be used. Find this snippet under the InfoTableResources section. There is also a snippet for incrementing through DataShape fields if the DataShape is known. For InfoTables which don't have the same DataShapes or for which the DataShape is not known, things get a bit trickier. Thankfully, some new KCS documentation provides example code to step you through merging any number of tables together. I hope this documentation is helpful!

  Step 3: Create a Base Mashup   Now that you have some data, you need to create and configure a Mashup to display the data.   Using Mashup Parameters, the Collection Widget will replicate the base Mashup multiple times, correlating to each row of data in the Info Table Property.   On the ThingWorx Composer Browse tab, click Visualization > Mashups, + New                2. Keep the default ofResponsive(without selecting any Templates), and click OK          3. In the Name field, enter cwht_base_mashup.      4. If Project is not already set, search for and select PTCDefaultProject.      5. Click Save.     Add Widgets to Design   At the top, click Design. TIP: You can click the left arrow on the divider between the Browse left-navigation and the Mashup Builder to minimize the navigation and provide more room for the Mashup Builder itself.                  2.  On the Layout tab at the top-left, select Positioning > Static. You generally want the base Mashup to be "Static" so that you know the size of the cells which  the Collection Widget will replicate.                3. From the top-left Widgets tab, drag-and-drop a Gauge Widget onto the central Canvas area.             4. Drag-and-drop an LED Display Widget onto the central Canvas area.               5. Drag-and-drop a Text Field Widget onto the central Canvas area       Reduce the Mashup Size   At the top-left on the Explorer tab, select the Container.                2. In the central Canvas area, click-and-drag the far-right side of the container to reduce its horizontal size               3. Click-and-drag the bottom of the container to reduce its vertical size     Create Mashup Parameters   On the top-left Explorer tab, select the Mashup itself. A drop-down menu indicator will appear in the top-left of the Mashup.                 2. Click the top-left drop-down menu to reveal the Mashup options               3. Select Configure Mashup Parameters to open the Configure Mashup pop-up menu                4. Click Add Parameter three times              5. For the Name fields, enter first_number, second_number, and third_number.         6. Change the Base Type to NUMBER for all three Parameters           7. Click Done to close the Configure Mashup pop-up menu   Bind Mashup Parameters to Widgets   Click the Mashup's drop-down menu in the top-left to expose the options again. There are now additional options for first_number, second_number, and third_number.              2. Drag-and-drop first_number onto the Gauge Widget               3. Select Data on the Select Binding Target pop-up menu of the Gauge Widget.         4. Drag-and-drop second_number onto the LED Display Widget. You may have to first reselect the Mashup itself to reveal the Mashup's drop-down menu to access the second_number Mashup Parameter. Remember that you can easily select the Mashup itself through the Explorer tab.                                    5. Select Data on the Select Binding Target pop-up menu of the LED Display Widget.         6. Drag-and-drop third_number onto the Text Field Widget.         7. Select Text on the Select Binding Target pop-up menu of the Text Field Widget.         8. At the top, click Save. You can expand the Connections window at the bottom and select the Mashup itself to confirm that all three Mashup Parameters have been correctly bound to each Widget.          9. Click the Right Arrow on the far-left of the Mashup Builder to re-expand the Browse navigation menu.         Click here to view Part 3 of this Guide.

Disclaimer: This post does of course not express any political views.   Pie Chart Coloring   In ThingWorx Pie Charts use a default color schema based on the DefaultChartStyle Definitions. These schemas are using fixed numbering and coloring systems, e.g. 1 is blue, 2 is green, 3 is red and so on. All Pie Charts will be rendered with these colors in the same order, no matter which data the chart is using. Visualization of data with the default colors might not necessarily help in creating an easy to read chart.   Just take a look at the following example with the default color schema. Let's just take political parties - as they are usually associated with a distinct color - to illustrate how the default color schema will fail depending on the data displayed.         In the first example, just by sheer coincidence the colors are perfectly matching the parties. When introducing a new party to the pool suddenly the blues are rendered green and the yellows rendered light-blue etc. This can be quite confusing, especially on election night 😉   Custom Color Schema   PoliticalParties Thing   To test a custom color schema, we first need to create a new Thing: PoliticalParties as a GenericThing Add a dataset property with the following PoliticalParties DataShape.         Save the Thing and set the InfoTable to:   Key Value The Purples 20 The Blues 20 The Greens 20 The Reds 20 The Yellows 20 Others 20   Number values don't actually matter too much, as the Pie Chart will automatically distribute them according to their percentage.   PoliticalParties Mashup   Create a new Mashup and add a PieChart to the canvas. Bind the PoliticalParties > GetPropertyValues > dataset to the Data input of the Widget. Ensure to set the LabelField to key and the ValueField to value for a correct mapping.     Save the Mashup and preview it.   It should show a non-matching color for each party listed in the InfoTable.   Custom Styles and States   Create new custom Style Definitions for each political party. As the Pie Chart is only using the Background Color other properties can stay on the default. I chose to go with a more muted version of the colors to make the chart easier to look at.         With the newly defined colors we can now generate a new State Definition as follows:       The States allow to evaluate the key-Strings in the Thing's InfoTable and assign a Style Definition depending on the actual value. In this definition we map a color schema based on the InfoTable's key-value to create a 1:1 mapping for the Strings.   This means, no matter where a certain party is positioned in the chart it will be tinted with its associated color.   Refining the Mashup   Back in the Mashup, select the PieChart. In the ColorFormat property choose the newly created State Definition.     Save the Mashup and preview it. With the States and Styles applies, colors are now displayed correctly.       Even when changing positions and numbers in the original InfoTable of the PoliticalParties Thing, the chart now considers the mapping of Strings and still displays the colors correctly.

Basic Mashup Widgets Guide Part 1    Overview   This project will introduce how to use some basic Widgets in a Mashup. Following the steps in this guide, you will create a Mashup that reacts to user input using a Button, Toggle Button, and Slider Widget. We will also teach you how to display data to users with the Grid Advanced, Gauge, and Property Display widgets. NOTE: This guide's content aligns with ThingWorx 9.3. The estimated time to complete ALL 3 parts of this guide is 60 minutes.    Step 1: Create Mashup   Build Mashup Click the Browse folder icon on the top left of ThingWorx Composer. Select Mashups in the left-hand navigation, then click + New to create a new Mashup.        3. For Mashup Type select Responsive. NOTE: A Responsive Mashup scales with a browser’s screen size. In the steps below we will create 5 containers, one for each widget, to organize how the widgets are presented.          4. Click OK. 5. Enter a name for your Mashup. 6. If Project is not already set, click the + in the Project text box and select the PTCDefaultProject. 7. Click Save. 8. Select the Design tab to display Mashup Builder. 9. Select the Layout tab in the upper panel of the left dock. 10. Click Add Bottom to split the Mashup canvas into two halves. 11. Click inside the bottom container to selected it, then click Add Left. 12. Click inside the bottom-right container to select it, then click Add Right. 13. Click inside the top container to select it, then click Add Right again. You should now have 5 containers in two rows, ready to have widgets added.   Step 2: Button   A button allows users to trigger an action, or stop and start long-running processes. Select the Widgets tab in the uppper panel of the left dock, then enter button inside the Filter field in the top-left. Drag-and-drop the Button widget onto the upper left container.        3. Click the drop-down arrow on the left side of the Button widget. 4. Click and drag the Clicked service shown in the drop-down onto a free area of the Mashup canvas.         5. When the Select Service pop-up appears, Click the ResetInputsToDefaultValues service that is provided by the Container. 6. Click Save. 7. Click View Mashup then click Show/Hide Debug Info. 8. Click the Trace tab and click Start Trace. 9. Click the button you created in your Mashup then click Stop Trace to see the log of the Clicked event triggering the ResetInputsToDefaultValues service.   Many properties are available that give control over how a Button widget will be displayed.
