Product designs can become very complex when they require cabling or harnessing systems. And the process of creating the manufacturing documentation can make a challenging task even more difficult. Luckily, there is a new out of the box solution in PTC Creo 3.0 for all PTC Creo Cabling customers who are on active maintenance. The new Harness Manufacturing Extension reduces the time it takes to create fully detailed harness manufacturing drawings. Jim Barrett-Smith explains more here:
To begin, open the Applications tab and select Harness Manufacturing to open the Harness Manufacturing Extension dialogue box. Next, select the Harness for which you plan to create a manufacturing drawing. If your manufactures prefer to have the flattened harness, BOM, Pin out tables, From To lists and 3D view to be on a single sheet simply check the option Variable sheet size. Finally, choose whether you would like to bend the harness to reduce the height of the drawing and to display cosmetic features. If you would like to use your own parameters to populate the BOM tables edit the entries Model “Description”, Connector “Seal”, and Spool “Part Number” by simply entering your parameter names in the textboxes. Next, click Flatten Harness.
After making all of your selections, click Flatten Harness.
The drawing will be created for you automatically. In the top left corner there you’ll see the From To table. In the center of the sheet there is a fully annotated layout with reference designator information, bill of material balloons and dimensions. The Bill of Materials is located in the bottom right corner. To the right there is a Pin Out table for each connector and a 3D view of the harness.
Use the magnifying glass to zoom in and review each part of the drawing.
