A task:
You can try to solve this task from begin or with help first steps of the solution - see the video http://communities.ptc.com/videos/1549
Solved! Go to Solution.
OK,
Thats as close as the solvers could get, with a resulting tension of 11.55k in the Cable, which is not too bad for design.
If I iterate around the solution above little by hand, pertty easily I get: L=1931.794m, and a cable tension of 11.005k.
(just to be difficlult, 2000m is a round number, but 6561.68 ft is not)
Inputting the corresponding values into your program, they are in agreement,
Mike

Sorry, no! We have not onebut two point of the chain fixing on thr horizontal bar!
I think about this task when I see this picture:
How about half of 2243m then?
Maybe a little more information is required. When talking about the breaking load of the chain, wouldn't the mode of failure usually be tension. Or are you talking about failure at the connections?
Mike
We must calculate the maximum force of chain tension and if it exceeds 11 kN, the chain must break.

Valary,
hows 2000m sound?
See attached.
Thanks,

Thanks Wayne for the solution!
But sorry Lmax=2000 m is so round
See in attach my function for the chain tension!

Thanks, Valary
By the way, the fist link to your server was to the Russian version, I can barily function in Englilsh. Thanks for the last link.
Best regards,
Wayne
I have a dream to write the article about this task!
Let Wayne do it tigether!
I knew Wayne would be the member to solve this.
