I'm having the same problem that an awful lot of people seem to be having - m12 installs just fin on a Win7 64-bit machine, but the program won't actually run. I installed .Net 1.1 and MsXML directly from the CD.
I've tried running in Compatibility Mode for XP SP2, XP SP3, Vista, and Vista SP2 - all with the same result. The UAC warning pops up, the process starts but then abruptly terminates.
Has anyone solved this problem or have any troubleshooting hints?

It's time to bite the bullet!
Much of the discussion was in the old Collaboratory and didn't get brought forward, but version 12 was one of the poorest ever versions of Mathcad ever released. If you can't get it to run, take that as a sign, wait a month and buy Prime 2.0 (which will come with a full-up version 15.) Version 15 is about the best version since version 11. Prime is the future of Mathcad (whether we like it or not.) By Prime 4 (or 5, 6, ...) it should have the capability of 15. Meantime, you can get two for the price of one. You can also downlowd a month-long evaluation copy, to hold you until Prime 2 is released.
Just note that Mathcad Prime 1.0 and Mathcad 15 free 30-day trial can be found here:

Its definitely been a while since I've updated the software. But as I look around, I see posts about every version of Mathcad from 11 to 15 having these same problems. So I'm not convinced that sending PTC more money would actually be a solution...
I suspect that the root is related to Win7 UAC, perhaps with some of the underlying components like MSXML.
Why do not you update your version of Mathcad 12?
Why do not you update your version of Mathcad 12?
Maybe $$$$$
Mike
But there is a difference who pays - you or the company where you work .
Good point
Mike
Need to convince the company to need to update the software.
