2024-10-04 Friday Thoughts (Rebuilding after great loss...)

Heading up north this weekend for some recharge time.

Thinking of those who have been devastated by floods and winds from Hurricane Helene. Keep those people in your prayers that are:

1. Looking for loved ones.

2. Figuring out what is next in life because everything that defined it has been wiped out.

3. Rebuilding after the damage to house, vehicles, roads, infrastructure....

If you have been blessed, how can you be a blessing to those that are around you that are hurting.

Turns out my wife and I were in the path of the hurricane, The combination of torrential rain at least 24 hrs prior and wind was pretty devastating for Asheville, NC, where I live and for many others. The images I eventually in media reports were pretty spectacular.

We were not hurt and our house was not damaged, despite a few close calls from trees falling all around. First few days were all about cutting trees to clear the roads, sharing info and resources with neighbors. Asheville is starting to get back on track with electricity coming back bit by bit. Same for water, gas and cell reception...

I hear that folks in more isolated communities receive supplies by helicopter. So many trees are down!

First time I face this type of circumstances. It gives me a better appreciation for those who are less fortunate.

@olivierlp You guys are in our prayers! These things give you a whole new perspective on everything. You guys are so far inland and with all the trees, I can't imagine how bad that is.

Thank you, @StephenW. Yes: beyond the immediate actions to take to get by, it invites thoughts about how we live and what we need, how we relate to one another, etc... Still processing.

You can say that again. 2 or 3 times a year we "prep" for the unexpected and hope we have done enough, just in case!

My adult "kids" know that come Xmas, some of the stuff in their Xmas stockings are going to be "we needed to use this stuff, its about to expire" and then we refresh for whatever is coming next!
