Flex Net licence server- does it run on Windows 2000 server edition?

We are about to upgrade from WF 2 which is licensed using Flex LM running
off our server which is Windows 2000 server.

I believe that the new license server is Flex Net. Does anyone know if it
will run on Win 2000 server? I have search these public discussions but
can't find any reference to it.

Thanks

Steve Cooke

Steve,

Shouldn't be a problem. In essence, FlexNet Publisher = FLEXlm. As the license management software hasbeen further developedand changed ownership, the name was changed. It's gained some functionality, but the basic day-to-day core functionality and system requirementsare the same.

Erik

Hi,

we are still running different kinds of FLEXlm/NET (lmgrd) licenses on a
Windows 2000 machine. Mostly the installers from the current releases
don't support the old OS but one can still user the lmtools (download link
was provided in one of the previous posts) to configure the licenses with
the old (ours is from 2006 for PTC) FLEXlm/NET software:

1) in the "configure service" tab create a service
2) point the paths to lmgrd.exe, license.dat and log file
3) configure your Vendor Daemon in the license.dat i.e. "DAEMON ptc_d
d:\ptc\flexlm\i486_nt\obj\ptc_d.exe"
4) set "Start Server at Power Up" and "Use Services"
5) from the "Start/Stop/Reread" tab "Start Server"

for PTC licenses as I remember we have just copied and reread the new
license file from lmtools over the last years.

Lately the installer from an other software company could not be started
on W2k once again but they provided their Vendor Daemon and with the above
procedure I could run their licenses.

Hope this will not change in future...

Regards
Jan

Jan,

How you outlined it pretty much sums up what I've been doing for years.Works well. Even moving license services to other servers I just copy the folder structure I have the FlexNet/lm related data in to another computer, get a new license file, go through the steps you outlined to create a new service, start it, shut down the old one on the prior server....done. (well, except for updating the clients)

Good to have win2K functionality confirmed. What version of lmgrd, lmtools etc are you currently running?

Erik

Eric,

we are using lmtools 11.5.0.0 and lmgrd 10.8.0.0. The ptc_d file properties tells: created 2004 and last copied 2006 as well as for lmgrd.

Hi Jan

Thank you for this. It worked almost perfectly (see my addition in point 3)
below)

Saved us lots of trouble.

Out of interest we are running LMTools Version 9.2 which must predate 2003

Best regards,

Steve

OK, I spoke too soon! It does read the license file and will issue licenses
for the older versions but not for Creo.

Steve,

this sounds like 2 licenses don't match with the license server. It seems either the licenses or the license server need to be updated. Check if your lmgrd is at least version 10.8 (RMB properties). Erik has posted a download link to the current versions. Since you are comming from WF2.0 may be your license file needs to be updated or you have copied the new licenses in a file with old ones. You can check with "Configure New Software" or Retrieve Existing License Packs from PTC's support page.
