config option + Mirror creates ghost parts

MY FIRST POST!

The behavior for the Mirror operation is to oThe behavior for the config option rename_drawings_with_object is to SAVE a copy of a drawing to the workspace when parts & assemblies get created from a save-as, etc without opening it up into session

The problem when you have this option set AND attemp to mirror is that the mirrored part is created in session and the drawing is saved to the workspace. The drawing is referencing the mirrored files, which were never saved to the workspace. Therefore, all of those mirrored files become ghost files.

I have an SPR with PTC, but they are claiming that each behavior is working as designed and that the workaround is either deleting the drawing with ghost parts, if we don't want to keep the mirror; or save the mirrored parts, if we want to keep it. By saving the file, the ghost parts go away.

The problem is that there really shouldn't be an easy scenario like this where the creation of ghost parts occur. We have over 35 engineers in our department. Many of them don't even know what ghost parts are. The ones that do treat it as a result of something going horribly wrong. They then stop their work and try to figure out what happened. Even if we train them up with the recommended workaround, mirroring is not common here and many individuals will forget when the time comes.

I'm hoping to hear a workaround or suggestion that can help prevent this ghost part creation, and try to keep the config option as-is.

Thanks!
