save a copy drawing file

hello every one,

i have a drawing say(1238z-136.drw) and model called in drawing with same name (1238z-136.prt), and now  I am saving a copy of drawing file with different name

(1238z-136ea) but model called in this drawing will remain same (1238z-136.prt), now when i am changing tolerance in (1238z-136ea) it automatically reflect in main drawing

(1238z-136.drw). i do not want this. I want these two draing files to be interdependent of each other. so that i can make change in tolerance values accordingly.

thanks in advance

Hi,

option no.1

  • copy 1238z-136.drw and 1238z-136.prt into empty directory (say C:\xxx)
  • erase Creo session memory
  • change working directory C:\xxx
  • open 1238z-136.drw and 1238z-136.prt
  • rename 1238z-136.drw and 1238z-136.prt
  • save both files
  • copy rename files to right directory

option no.2

I am going with option no.2 , the drawing is copying but both drawings are interdependent it means when i change any tolerance in one drawing it is reflecting in another drawing , sir i want fully independent drawings with same model in same directory..

thanks

Hi,

I tested your data in CR3 M100. Copy action works well. Before I install CR3 M060 I need to know what results do you want to obtain.

Source files:

  • 1248tz-1360000.drw uses drawing model 1248tz-1360000.asm
  • 1248tz-1360000.asm consists of:
1248tz-136b0000.prt ... contains Family Table which is lost during copy action
    1248tz-136c0000.prt
    1248tz-136m0000.prt
    nxp-pcf7938xa.prt

What target names do you want to obtain ?

sir

I have this drawing and model in my drawing file

  • 1248tz-1360000.drw uses drawing model 1248tz-1360000.asm

now i want new drawing as it is but the drawing name will change (it will use same model , nothing change in model)

  • 1248tz-136EA00.drw uses drawing model 1248tz-1360000.asm

now what happening is, suppose i change any tolerance dimension of 1248tz-1360000.drw it will automatically reflects in 1248tz-136EA00.drw, i want both of them to be independent of each other so that when i make any changes in any drawing other should not be effected...

Hi,

please confirm that you need to get following files. I will test copying and send you information.

  • 1248tz-136ea00.drw uses drawing model 1248tz-136ea00.asm
  • 1248tz-136ea00.asm consists of:
1248tz-136b0000.prt ... contains Family Table which is lost during copy action
    1248tz-136c0000.prt
    1248tz-136m0000.prt
    nxp-pcf7938xa.prt

yes i need those file in the same folder which also contains 1248tz-1360000.drw, and change in one drw should not reflect in another drw file.

thanks

Hi,

please read attached document. It contains information concerning my testing procedure.

I think you are missing the basic CREO understanding.

Drawings are driven from the model. If you change the model, you are changing the drawing. If you change the tolerance, you are changing the model!!!

The only work-around that I can think of using the same model is the following:

1. Create your drawing using the option CREATE_DRAWING_DIMS_ONLY YES.

2. Only create dimensions (no shown dimensions)

3. Copy the drawing.

You will be able to edit the tolerance because the dimensions, which include the tolerances, only exist in the drawing and not the model.

I would consider this VERY POOR MODELING PRACTICE.

BTW ... at the start of discussion you mentioned drawing+part couple. On the other side testing.rar data package contains assembly+drawing couple ?!

Adding separate sheet in main drawing may be an option for you.

This is applicable for tolerance change only. Do not show "Show-Erase dimensions" for which you want to change tolerance. Just create dimensions and if GD&T is associated then create in drawing instead of model dependent.

I hope this will work.

Thanks,
