I have a similar requirement to orient the image from 0-359 deg. It would be glad if you could share the code for developing the extension along with the option to change the image used.
You could modify an existing extension or implement your own. I don't have a sample code (but like I said, you can take a look at the existing ThingWorx widgets and modify), attaching the documentation on custom extensibility.
