For your information, the data throughput is estimated at 1.6TB/month (from IOT sensors to Thingworx). Hence, the thought of using a scaled up database arises so that we are able to accommodate such huge data throughput.

I don't know about the feasibility of your approach. However, have you considered InfluxDB Enterprise for your sensor data. It is horizontally scalable and can be deployed on any infrastructure. For elastic scalability, there is InfluxDB Cloud(AWS) as well.
