Any issues with using a common email address for multiple users?

Are there any issues with using a common email address when setting up multiple users?  We have many employees who do not use email in Manufacturing and don't even have an email account.  The system Help has "features that enable search, create privileges, and assign members" listed as things that requires an email.  What exactly does that mean? I created a test user with no email and didn't have any issues searching.  I'm interested in how the email address affects or limits the user.  Thanks.

We had several users in Windchill system whose email id was set to same noemail@domain.com. They never had any issues with the search or access of Windchill. The only place where I noticed we had problem was in recent participants box in find participants. Similar to Re: Find Participants missing Most Recent Particip... - PTC Community

Rest of all the limitations in Windchill Help has workarounds and/or is not relevant for generic users

Thank you,

No issues with doing so.

In a test environment I've created temp accounts every time I work on changing or expanding Change Management workflows. This way I can set the proper accounts into the various roles and verify all the activities work as intended, the voting and loop links work and all the Policies are set correctly. Every temp account has my email address as part of the testing procedure. It's never had a problem.

Hi there,

The biggest thing to remember on email addresses for users is the workflow tasks that send out reminder emails. PDM doesn't care which email address is on any one account, it just sends the task auto-mail to whatever address is linked to the user when they receive a task. So you have to think about the logistics of this; if several users are using the same email account how will they know which email is for them and which is for another user? Not everyone will be diligent enough to check their tasks page every time they see one of these.

Also, for your test case of making a user without an email address, keep in mind that they will therefore never get any task reminder emails so they may let tasks sit in their inbox unless they are religiously checking their task inbox on a regular basis. Note that the lack of an email address doesn't really affect any other aspect of their account; it won't restrict their access or ability to use the search function, everything else is set either on their username or on the context team role that they are in.

Hope that helps.

Daryl
