Duplicate attributes in Attribute layout

In a subtype attribute layout we have an attribute 'xyz' which is getting displayed twice. At the parent type level the attribute is only defined once but in the subtype the same attribute is appearing twice. In the parent layout if we try to remove the attribute form the attribute display layout then one of this gets removed in the subtype as well but one still remains. 

Has anyone faced similar kind of issue??

You may have the attribute listed in the layout for "primary attributes" and then listed the attribute again in a "more attributes" layout.

This is the case. I was just recently editing our Change Request views and noticed this behaviour. Very confusing the whole layout editor.
