Engineering deviations

I'm looking for some insight into how companies are handling temporary
engineering deviations on released parts/drawings in PDMLink. Does
PDMLink have any native capability for handling these situations, or is it
up to each company to figure out how to handle this by using a lifecycle
state or some other means?

Here's an example of an engineering deviation -- a screw is out of stock,
so a substitute screw is allowed for production but it has a different
part number than what is shown on the drawing. In this case, the drawing
needs to be temporarily modified but there's no change request involved.
Once the screw is back in stock, the drawing needs to be reverted back to
the original.

Any insight you are willing to share is much appreciated!

We have not used it, but there is an object type call Variance that has
two subtypes: Deviation and Waiver.

This is from the 9.1 PDMLink Help files:


About Variances
A variance is an authorization to depart from the as-designed
configuration for a specific number of units and or for a specified time
period.
A variance is defined in two categories: deviations and waivers.

A deviation is a planned departure from the as-designed configuration
before the part is built.

A waiver is a written acceptance of nonconformance.



You might look into those object types to see if they do what you want
them to do.
