How to Handle Non-Form/Fit/Function changes.

Ok, so here's the situations. Upon checkin of parts and assemblies I have the Auto Associate Parts checkbox checked I understand that an "owner" link is created with the WTPart. Therefore any change to the CAD Document parts and assemblies forces an iteration to the WTPart.

If I have the WTPart Version shown on the face of the drawing then my drawing immediately becomes out of date with the parts and assemblies that the drawing details.

In the case of a real form fit or function change I am ok with this functionality. But what about the case where a change was made to the parts and assemblies that doesn't affect form fit or function such as the addition of a datum plane that assists the NC programmer? Does anyone have a solution for this use case?
