How to setup OIR to validate if spaces are present in Number field?

I want to change OIR for my WTDocument soft type to validate if space is entered by the User in the "Number" field.

I don't have auto-numbering set and User can enter whatever value is desired.

Without any custom validation, is it possible to restrict space in Number value with the use of OIR?

I think OIR just sets up defaults for the form. I see a couple of customization options

1. Assuming 9.1, DocumentManagement-actions.xml, look for create action. Extend doc form processor class, override execute method, or whatever method is appropriate.

2. Check for appropriate number and hold in workflow if necessary.
