How to share design data with muliple suppliers or design partners with a single project

For a product that has multiple external collaborating entities (suppliers, design partners) , there is only a single project related to the product and multiple folders are created for managing suppliers with in the same project. say folder1 for supplier1. folder2 for supplier2, folder3 for designPartner3 etc... And collaborating partner users have access only to their folders.

And there is often a business need to share the same design data with multiple partners. Which means that we need to be able to share the same data to multiple folders in the same project, which in Windchill 10.1 OOTB seems to be restricted for now.

Is anyone aware of any solution for this? Or is there a better strategy for handling multiple partners than using multiple folders?

Hi Mathew,

1. Try to use Link Object

or

2. Create a New folder give access to all the collaborating external parties

Thanks,

Rahul

Hi Rahul,

Thanks for the response.

Option#2, business does not allow that. So we can rule that out.

Option#1, Did you mean creating a new Link in Project folder and have that point to CAD Document in the Product? If thats what you meant, that will need the supplier to be in the Product Team, which is not desirable for us.

Thanks and Regards

HI Mathew,

Did you managed to find a feasible solution to this?

We are now looking to use the Project for collaboration and am interested to hear more.

Thanks

Aleksandra

Hi Aleksandra,

Not sure if my reply is too late. The following is what we figured out.

#1. Create a project for each vendor/supplier rather than for each product. This worked out since we could share the same design to multiple projects

#2 Use Security labels and agreements for each vendor to control what each vendor can see

We went with #1, as that required less configurations and met our needs.

Thanks and Regards

Midhun
