Is there a way to update all of the cad data that is stored in windchill at once??

Hello,

Here at my place of employment we have Windchill to manage all of our SolidWork’s data. Recently we upgraded our SolidWork’s from 2013 to 2015 and now all of the cad data that is in Windchill is still in SolidWork’s 2013 format which causes errors every time we need to change an assembly drawing/assembly. Is there a way to update all of the cad data on the server to the newest SolidWork’s release??

Any help would be great

Thanks

James

Ask Solidworks if they have a utility to upgrade their files in batch or background.

You would then need to write a program to extract all files from Windchill, upgrade them through the Solidworks program and then import them back in to Windchill. Replace extract and import with Check out and Check in, if you can get the program to run with in Windchill.

Most CAD programs can load older version files without error, what is Solidworks complaining about?

Is you Solidworks compatible with your Windchill version? This has caused us issues with AutoCAD files in the past.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply I will have to look in to that.

The one error we get is that every time we make a change to a top level assembly and then try to save it it wants to do a save as to every part that is used in that assembly and im 99% positive that its because all of those cad files are an older release of solidworks. Its not a show stop by all means its just annoying. we did find a way around it by just licking cancel as many times as it takes when the "save as" window pops up but if you can imagine an assembly with hundreds of parts it gets old quick.

Thanks again for your reply

James

If you lock all the files in the workspace before opening (except the assembly), do you still receive the pop up windows?
