Migrating over WAN

Migrating over WAN

All,

For the next upcoming rehearsal migration, we may need to have to the
Pro/I clone server at one site and the PDMLink server at another. The
sites are approximately 10 miles from each other and are connected via
a shared high bandwidth WAN connection but with lots of security "infrastructure"
between them. I have been asked if this is feasible.

Does anybody know what is the nature of the communication between the
Pro/I clone server and the PDMLink environment? Is it, in general, bulk
data transfer, or is it "chatty" and geared for LAN use only? If a mixture
of both, is it predominantly one or the other? In prior migrations, both
servers have been on the same LAN.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have done several rehearsal migrations where the Ilink clone server
was located across a 54mb wireless WAN connection. It worked fine for
me. However I was not transferring any files over the WAN.

I did notice some "bulk" traffic where the network was constant for a
while. I couldn't tell you about the "chatty" traffic because I wasn't
looking for it.

Migration of Metadata should not be a problem. Why don't you use the pre-copy option for the vault?

Start using another media to copy the Intralink files, when it will come to production migration just updgrade these with the delta and you should be ok
