Hello,
our company is wondering, what best practice of a multi used CAD drawing could be in Windchill (10.2).
We don't use change manangement in Windchill.
We have a drawing that describes several parts (content link). The drawings shows a base model with options. If a new part with a new option was engineered, the drawing needs to be updated with the new option. We use the master model concept and have a 3D CAD model that has all options. This model is not linked to a part but has a drawing reference to the drawing. The drawing is linked to all parts with content link.
To develop the new part, the 3D model needs to be revised. When work is done the drawing needs to be revised. The problem is, that now we need to revise all related parts because if not, the new revision is not linked to the parts anymore. The problem then is, that not all parts are released. Some are Prototype, Service Only, Obsolote, On Change or Develtopment. After the drawing update and the promotion of the parts they need to have the same state as before.
This is so much complicated that we are wondering if there is a better way of doing this.
One thought is, to create a WTdoc with a PDF file of the drawing that is linked as a reference link to all the parts. Now we were able to revise the drawings without revising the parts.
Not revising the parts would be best for us because we don't need to tell the vendors that we have ne revisions but nothing changed.
I hope you have some tips or ideas.
