Windchill 10.1 Standard Attribute

Is it possible to create a standard attribute on any WC business object without having Info Modeler installed?

Kirk,
It's been my experience that you can't create standard attributes on EPMDocuments yet. I have created them on WTParts but I haven't tried other objects. You can do this without the Info Modeler. Read the Windchill Customization Guide for 10.1 and on page 576 it talks about Standard attributes. Then on page 1056 it walks you through the process of creating them.

Has anybody converted IBA attribute to a Standard attribute in 10? How long it takes to do it? We have 45 million rows in StringValue table. I would like to see any performance improvement of doing it.

Preeti,
I have not ever converted Global to Standard. I thought I read in one of the guides as to how to convert a Global to Standard but I don't remember where.

I thought I heard there were some limitations to Standard attribute. Does anybody remember what they were?

The Type and Attribute Management content in the Windchill 10.1 Help Center includes a topic entitled "TypeAttributeMoveTool Utility"that describes how to usethis command line utility for the following:

  • Copying values from a global attribute to a standard attribute—To achieve a performance gain, as standard attribute values reside in the same database table as the type, rather than in a different table.

  • Copying values from a global attribute to a global attribute—To combine or split attributes.

  • Copying values from a standard attribute to a standard attribute—To combine or split attributes, or to move data from one table column to another.

  • Copying values from a standard attribute to a global attribute—To allow the attribute to have multiple values and have global scope.

Preeti, does this provide the information you were looking for?

Yep that's the tool I read about.

Thanks Jane. This is what I like to do. I probably need to measure the performance gain.

PREETI GUPTA,‌

I know this is a really old post, but I'm curious if you ever moved forward with converting your global attributes to standard attributes.  If so, what type of performance gain did you actually realize?  Thanks!
