Starting with Windchill 12.0.1.0 (December 2020 release), packaging and delivery of Windchill DS is discontinued (remove).
In this model, a Directory Server is still part of the deployment architecture, but the support is equivalent as for other 3rd party components of the overall system.
For providing direction and support on this topic below are some of the resources that are published.

CS337554 states the following:
When groups, administrators, etc. are migrated to the database, they are removed from the LDAP.
When the Info*Engine configuration is migrated to JSON files, the node still remains in the LDAP.
Is it safe to manually delete the 'configuration' node from the LDAP after updating to 12.0.1.0? Is there some reason the migrator does not automatically remove this node?
The cn=configuration is not removed during update/update, though it will not be used, customer may choose to delete manually.
