WorkgroupManager INVENTOR - change on large files do not show up in workspace correctly

Hello community

We are using Windchill since years for Creo.

Now we integrated Inventor with WGM.

Migration went all without any issue.

We have now the following problem:

Large files (example 80-350mb) can be downloaded, checked out, opened in inventor, modified.

When we do the save process the file is saved to the local WC file system environment correctly.

Inside the workspace we only receive the small watch symbol and it says "local files are out of date with workspace"

Small CAD objects are not a problem, their behavior is like normal "Creo" objects.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Anyone has the same issue?

Thank you for the help

Looks like we do have a configuration issue with the environment variables and the set location of the cache.

We use batch files to seperate Creo and WGM cache locations - PTC documentation is not absolutely clear about the WGM part.

Anyone has experience who can help/share with the WGM configuration (batch file) for environment variables?

Thank you

Interesting that you have problems with the location of the cache and environment variables. We had to adjust those a while back as well.

I will tell you that, we've had had multiple issues with OneDrive and WGM cache. Do you have OneDrive turned on?

Check out Article CS297063, it tells you that if OneDrive is active (which it was) you have to :

  1. Turn off the "Files on Demand" feature in OneDrive settings
  2. Reboot the client

None of our engineers that use WGM have OneDrive on anymore, it was just too much hassle.

@JHall

Thank you for your reply.

Finally there were multiple issues.

1. Environment variables was not related to this but we resolved this with setting them on a start batch

2. The main issue was the "publish viewable with CAD application" button, this caused the state that the cad object was not saved to the workspace. Support was also surprized about it. we are using Windchill 11.0 M030 CPS16 and Inventor 2019 with the latest updates.

We now publish everything over the server side cad worker (full mode - not the lightweight without cad license). Unfortunately with some complicated geometries it does not run through but we actualy life with it.

Marc

That's very interesting to me.  I was told that the "publish viewable with CAD application" did not work for Inventor when we were just starting out a few years ago.   As a result I've trained our Engineers to never use it.  This seems to have avoided this particular problem for us.  However this is valuable information to know, in case someone does this.  Thanks for sharing!
